The coupling forms the sealed joint that carries suction from the machine into the hose. A cracked or worn coupling leaks air and can pull loose from the inlet, which drops suction at the hose and interrupts cleaning. A fresh coupling reseals that joint so the hose locks in and moves full airflow again.
